Welcome to the Sunday Scroll! Your weekend recap of the world of culture, marketing & commerce. Think of us as your internet curators & reprieve from the wild world of being too online. Come for the chaos, stay for the structure.

Hello angels, hope you had a glorious week! We sure did - not only were we reunited in LA for a very special project with a certified dream girl (that we cannot wait to share) but we got to experience The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Century City mall together. Spoiler alert: the mall was way more riveting. Unfortunately, the DWP2 was simply exactly what we imagined it would be. One or two feel good moments, sure, but Simone Ashley carried the team on her back with both on-screen and off-screen looks. Same goes for The Met Gala. Which, the one, two punch of underwhelm continues to break our fashion-loving hearts.

However! We did get a rush of excitement when the royal family showed up, and not because of Queen Bey and King Jay, but because Blue ate them both up with her look. Which means we just might have a baby Solange on our hands because that girl has STYLE. And, on set this week for said secret work project, we got a front row seat to watch a brilliant stylist in action which was capital I inspiring. So, all in all, we’d call it a net positive week in soul food.

Oh, but we’d be remiss not to share the mood-killing news thanks to our trash ass president. First, the trash ass killing of the Voting Rights Act. Then there were the google alerts about the impending doom of escalating war with Iran. Every week this term is an emotional minefield but we are doing our best to stay engaged without falling into an impending pit of doom!! HBU?

  • 😮 Latto announcing her upcoming drop will be a retirement album

  • 💰 Kylie Jenner’s “rebranded” Sprinter having Georgina Rodríguez $$

  • 🐱 The second-hand embarrassment of Harry Styles’ music video choreography

Quote of the Week

“You’re not a visionary, you’re a vendor” - Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada 2

While the movie was less than inspiring, this quote was a standout. We both audibly released an oop in the theater. And honestly, more people need to be told this. In the age of perceived internet expertise and taste, there are a lot of people with money/power/access who think they’re cultural visionaries that really aren’t. The Met Gala also put this on clear display when miss moodboard Hailey Bieber told Lala that Rihanna influences most of her fashion choices. Which, girl, we know. But not enough people do. The ones who are tapped in know better. We know that true influence comes from the people influencing the “influential.” Which is starting to become more apparent, as seen by the wider trend of decreased trust of mega-influencers.

Consciously Consuming…

  • 🎧 Esther Perel on Jay Shetty: Can’t resist any conversation that features the star (and no BS) relationship therapist. This convo specifically spoke to the current struggles in modern relationships and why people feel so disconnected. Promise the reframe will make you feel empowered vs demoralized.

  • 🎙️ Met Gala Recap with Lynette Nylander: The unfiltered opinions by the How Long Gone guys paired with the expertise of Harper’s Bazaar Executive Editor Lynette Nylander was truly a treat. We cackled several times in “I can’t stand these guys” and felt vindicated by our instinctive hot takes.

  • ✏️ Forget Influencers, Welcome to the World of the ‘Alternatively Influential’: A good read on the new guard of non-influencers that are nonetheless influencing us more than ever. Dubbed ‘public thinkers’ and ‘tastemakers,’ these are people who are perceived as highly credible in their little worlds vs the mass appeal many top creators/influencers speak to.

  • 👗 How To Spot Luxury Fabrics: This <1 min cheat sheet to analyze what fabrics you should actually be spending your money on is a great entry point in a world of overpriced “luxury” that will undoubtedly fall apart after a few wears.

  • 🎶 Icon by Brett Faiyez: We’re in our feelings. We’re contemplative. We’re horny.

Fast Fashion Takes Over the Met Gala Red Carpet

Bet you didn’t think Kendall Jenner’s response to “who are you wearing” would be “Gap,” did you? Us either, but it’s not the first time the supermodel and mega-influencer has rocked fast fashion to the most exclusive red carpet.
